Plans have been announced for a new store in Tigard at Dartmouth Street and 72nd Avenue, within the “Tigard Triangle.” Scheduled to open in October 2013, the 137,900 sq/ft store will include a full range of general merchandise and a full line of groceries, including fresh produce, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, and organic items.
The Tigard Walmart store will create more than 300 new quality jobs, as well as temporary jobs added during construction and jobs created by store suppliers. Walmart opened its first store in Oregon in 1992. Currently there are 31 Walmart stores in the state, employing more than 9,850 associates. As of January 2012, the average wage for regular, full-time hourly associates in Oregon was $12.96 per hour.
We are proud to be one of the largest buyers of Oregon agricultural products, which will be featured in the store. Further investment in Oregon’s economy are the 29,489 supplier jobs that are supported by Walmart’s purchase of $604 million worth of goods and services from 561 Oregon businesses last year, one of which is Stash Tea located nearby.
